The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and Google plan to improve the digital skills of university teachers – the first step will be appropriate online courses. This was discussed on October 2, 2019, during a meeting between Minister Anna Novosad and Google Director of Public Policy and Government Wilson White.
In addition, the parties have agreed to work on the adaptation of Google classes for higher education institutions. This will help teachers better organize the educational process, plan activities with students, and more.
Educators will also be able to pass appropriate certification in digital competencies.
“The Ministry first started working with Google in the area of general secondary education, and this collaboration has produced great results. First of all, I want to mention the efforts that you made when you were teaching safer Internet to 22,000 teachers – this is a huge figure. And now we can already talk about higher education, because we are convinced that all educators need to improve their digital literacy – modern educational trends require it, ”said Anna Novosad.
She also recalled that in 2018, the MES approved a special guide on digital citizenship and security for schools. It was developed in conjunction with Google.
Wilson White emphasized that digital skills are very important in the developing world. Google’s priority is first and foremost helping those who need these skills to improve. The company has successfully implemented many projects with the Ministry of Education and Science and is ready to move on in other directions. According to him, in the future the parties will outline other areas where cooperation will be most effective.
