Since 2015, the American Physical Society (APS) and the Forum on International Physics (FIP) have established the Distinguished Student (DS) Program to provide promising young researchers outside the United States with financial support to attend the meeting.
We invite you to participate:
- Non-US Citizens
- Young researchers (doctoral, graduate, or master’s students) studying in the United States or outside the United States
- Submitted abstracts for the March or April 2024 meeting
- Candidates must be members of APS and FIP

Graduate and Master’s students are eligible for a one-year free trial of APS student membership. Once you register for APS membership, you can join FIP (membership is free).
Grant amount for physical participation:
The DS travel award covers the following travel, accommodation and registration meeting costs to attend the in-person APS meetings in March or April 2024:
- up to $2,000 to help young researchers studying in developing countries
- up to $500 to support early career researchers studying outside the United States (excluding developing countries)
- up to $300 to help young researchers studying in the US
Fellows will be reimbursed after attending the meeting.
Grant amount for virtual participation:
The DS travel award covers registration fees for attending APS virtual meetings in March or April 2024.
Applications must include the following items:
- SUMMARY
- Motivation letter (1 page)
- At least one letter of recommendation
- Abstracts submitted to the March or April APS 2024 meeting
Deadline: January 4, 2024.
Only complete applications will be considered.
Students who have received DS grants in the past five years are not eligible to participate.
