XVIІI International Scientific and Practical Conference “Building the Information Society: Resources and Technologies” was held at the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine

On September 19-20, 2019 UkrISTEI, with financial and organizational support from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, held the XVIІI International Scientific and Practical Conference “Building the Information Society: Resources and Technologies”.

The First Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Yuriy Polyukhovich delivered a welcoming speech to the participants.

Current issues of the digital economy, the development of digital services and technologies, new opportunities for education and science in the digital environment were discussed on the conference .

Panel discussions brought together experts from central executive bodies, scientists, educators, representatives of business and civil society.

An interesting exchange of views took place regarding the adequacy of domestic regulatory support for the digital transformation of the country, the priority areas of digitalization, the development of artificial intelligence, the use of digital services in industrial production, the provision of public services, finance, public life, science and education. Particular attention was paid to the analysis of foreign experience and consideration of the philosophical and philosophical aspects of digitalization. Specialists were not unanimous in their assessments, spoke out reasonably, emphasizing both the positive aspects and the shortcomings, openly talked about the benefits of digitalization and the risks that accompany it.

Special guest of the conference – Dominic Farace, PhD, Director of GreyNet International (Amsterdam, Netherlands), connoisseur of gray literature as an important source of scientific and educational information, organizer of specialized scientific conferences in the USA and EU countries.

He presented to the audience his vision of the role of gray literature, spoke about partners and like-minded people of GreyNet International, the best foreign practices, relevant infrastructure, scientific research, a network of information support for gray literature in the form of OpenGreyRepository.

Another speaker from the Netherlands, Vyacheslav Tykhonov, shared his experience of creating repositories and digital archives in the context of EOSC (European Open Science Cloud).

In person and online, the conference was joined by representatives of Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Moldova, the Netherlands, Poland, Ukraine, a total of 19 experts and 26 speakers. A productive exchange of views took place on building the information society and digitalization.
