The Program of Scientific Cooperation of Ukraine and Belarus for 2019-2022 was signed

Ukraine and Belarus will continue their active cooperation in the scientific field, in particular, scientists from both countries will continue to be able to carry out joint research within the framework of bilateral projects. The corresponding program of cooperation for 2019-2022 was signed by First Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, Yuriy Polyukhovich, and Chairman of the State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus, Oleksandr Shumilin, on October 4, 2019, during the Second Forum of the Regions of Ukraine and Belarus.

“We have one of the longest-lasting cooperation in the scientific field with the Republic of Belarus. For example, contests of bilateral scientific projects have been running continuously for over 20 years – since 1998. During this time, our researchers have jointly implemented 67 projects in such areas as nanotechnology, biotechnology, laser technology, medicine, ICT, energy and more. Now scientists of Ukraine and Belarus are also jointly executing 10 projects, designed for 2019-2020”, Yuriy Polyukhovich said.

He explained that the signing of the program for the next years will allow to continue holding such bilateral scientific competitions. Thus, they are planning to announce the next Ukrainian-Belarussian competition in the beginning of 2020 for execution in 2021-2022.

The document also envisages deepening of cooperation in scientific and technical and innovative spheres: more active interaction on technology transfer, participation in the Horizon 2020 program, exchange of information, etc.

“I would like to emphasize that the potential of cooperation in this area is far from being exhausted and the parties need to set new strategic goals. In the conditions of intensive development in the world of new technologies, the priority for both parties is the development of cooperation in the field of high technologies – information technologies, biotechnology, pharmacy, optics, laser physics, thermophysics, bioorganic chemistry and materials science”, said Oleksandr Shumilin.
