Ukrainian scientists receive free access to full texts of the leading scientific publisher Springer Nature – MES secured connection since January 3

All Ukrainian state and municipal higher education institutions or scientific institutions can access free of charge full-text publications of the renowned international publisher Springer Nature. The Ministry of Education and Science provided the state budget through the State Library for Science and Technology (SLST). Connection started on January 3, 2020.

Universities and academic institutions that have previously accessed Scopus databases or / and the Web of science through SLST will be granted access to Springer Nature automatically. The same institutions that were not affiliated with Scopus or / and Web of science should apply to the SLST at this link.

“The integration of our scientists into the world research space is one of the priorities of the Ministry of Education and Science for the next 5 years. Of course, an important element of such integration is the free access of Ukrainian scientists to the results of their foreign colleagues. Back in May last year, we enabled all universities and academic institutions – regardless of departmental authority – to connect to the international Scopus and Web of science databases. The subscription was secured with a budget and over 430 institutions have now accessed it. We have now provided access to all Springer Nature magazines – one of the world’s largest publishers of academic and popular books and magazines”, said Dmitro Cheberkus, Director General of the Ministry of Science.

He separately emphasized that the full texts would be opened for Ukrainian scientists. This exclusive access to the resources of a leading scientific publisher was organized for the first time since independence.

“This is a necessary solution for Ukrainian science, because Springer Nature is one of the most popular publishers among our author authors. Accessing the full texts will allow them to better understand the relevance of particular studies, prepare better articles or lectures, seek scientific contacts, etc”, – said Dmitro Cheberkus.
