EQUIPMENT FOR ARGON-ARG WELDING OF TITANIUM IN A NARROW GAP WITH A MAGNETICALLY CONTROLLED ARC

PURPOSE:

The technology and the developed equipment are intended for making butt joints made of titanium and alloys based on titanium for the thickness of structural elements connected from 20 to 110 mm.

TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS:

    • The size of welded products, mm:
      • thickness 20—100
      • length ≤4000
    • Tungsten electrode diameter, мм 4,0; 5,0
    • Welding current, A 150-500
    • Welding speed, m / h 2.5-15
    • Filler wire diameter, mm 2.0; 2.5; 3.0.

RECOMMENDED FIELD OF APPLICATION:

Aircraft, rocket, shipbuilding.

ADVANTAGES:

Compared with the known methods of welding titanium of large thicknesses (submerged arc, MiG, EShZ), the proposed welding method has the following advantages: lower heat input during welding, a decrease in the length of the heat-affected zone and, as a consequence, a decrease in product deformation; simplification in the preparation of edges and a reduction in the time of preparatory operations; reducing the cost of preparatory and welding works; significant reduction in the consumption of argon, titanium welding wire, electricity; ensuring high quality of welded joints regardless of the thickness of the welded elements.
