On November 15, 2023, an online lecture “Biologically active functional nanomaterials: from effective flexible magnets to photonic logic” will take place.

On November 15 at 16:00, the team of the Kharkiv Chemical Seminar, started by the Research Department of Chemistry of Functional Materials of the Scientific and Technological Complex “Institute of Single Crystals” of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, invites everyone to join the call online.

Lecturer: Professor Volodymyr Tsukruk, Director of the Center for Microanalysis at the Georgia Institute of Technology (Atlanta, USA). He received his higher education and the degrees of candidate and doctor of chemical sciences in Ukraine. While in postdoctoral studies, he carried out research at the Universities of Darmstadt and Marburg and the University of Akron. Co-author of more than 550 articles, cited about 40,000 times, with an H-index of more than 100, trained 120 graduate students and doctoral students.

Topic of the report: “Bio-enabled Functional Nanomaterials: from Actuating Flexible Magnets to Photonically-Assisted Logic”. In the report, the lecturer will present the results of creating functional hybrid nanomaterials from nematic chiral polysaccharides in combination with graphene oxides, magnetic nanoparticles and quantum dots for adaptive materials, magnetic photonic materials and thin-film electronics. He will talk about stable photonic nanomaterials from cellulose nanocrystals and nanofibers decorated with highly photoluminescent organic dyes or quantum carbon dots. Will share results on magnetically controlled homogeneous photonic organization of bacterial cellulose nanocrystals decorated with superparamagnetic nanoparticles. We will also talk about field-effect transistors with multi-valued logic, which can significantly increase the ability to encrypt using a light pulse.

Briefly about the event:

It has already been almost a year and a half since the scientists of the Research Department of Chemistry of Functional Materials STC “Institute of Single Crystals” of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine began and are accessible to a wide range of scientists the Kharkiv Chemical Seminar, at which the world presents reports and lectures. In particular, the course of lectures was given by Nobel laureates Jean-Marie Laine, Jean-Pierre Sauvage, Richard Roberts, Kurt Wüthrich, Dan Shechtman, as well as leading professors from France, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, the USA, the Netherlands and other countries. During the Kharkiv Chemical Seminar, about 30 lectures were held, in which more than 9,000 participants took part (directly at the meetings and through the YouTube channel).
