Technology for processing carbon filler in the production of electrodes and electrode mass

Purpose. For the treatment of carbon filler (thermoanthracite, graphitized coke, petroleum coke, pitch coke and graphite) with a surfactant in the production of electrodes and electrode mass of the electrometallurgical industry to reduce the use of binding raw materials – electrode pitch.

Specifications. To use the technology you need: phenol, formaldehyde, a reactor for the production of phenol-formaldehyde resin, an oven for preheating phenol-formaldehyde resin, a dispenser.

Application area. Coke production, electrometallurgical production. Enterprises for the production of carbon-graphite products, electrometallurgical enterprises

Advantages. The technology differs from existing ones in that when producing carbon masses, before adding a binder, the surface of the carbon filler (thermoanthracite, graphitized coke, petroleum coke, pitch coke and graphite) is treated with phenol-formaldehyde resin. The advantages of the technology are a reduction in the amount of binding raw material – electrode pitch, improved performance indicators (tensile strength, electrical resistivity) of electrode products, and a reduction in environmental load due to the reduction of binding raw materials.

Technical and economic effect. Economic efficiency: the economic effect is achieved by reducing the use of medium-temperature pitch B1, as well as reducing the consumption of graphite electrodes when melting steel in electric arc furnaces.

Description. Modern modernization of electric steelmaking production by intensifying the melting of scrap in electric arc furnaces using powerful transformers and the introduction of out-of-furnace steel processing have significantly changed the operating conditions of the electrodes, and also increased the requirements for their quality and operation. Therefore, it is constantly necessary to improve the performance properties of carbon-graphite products (electrodes, anodes, nipples, electrode masses).
