On April 9, 2024, the next session of the Kharkiv Chemical Seminar will take place

On April 9, 2024 at 16:00 Kyiv time, the next online meeting of the Kharkiv Chemical Seminar, launched by the Research Department of the Chemistry of Functional Materials of the Scientific and Technological Complex “Institute of Single Crystals” of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, will take place.

Lecturer: Prof. Thomas Müller (Prof. Dr. Thomas J.J. Müller), director of the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Macromolecular Chemistry, and also heads the Laboratory of Organic Chemistry at the Heinrich-Heine University, Düsseldorf, Germany. He studied chemistry at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, then completed an internship at Stanford University and developed an independent scientific career at the Technical University of Darmstadt, the University of Munich and the University of Heidelberg. His research interests include synthetic and physical-organic chemistry of functional chromophores, as well as the development of novel one-pot reactions. In 2021, he was elected as a foreign member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Topic of the report: “Dithieno-anellation of [1,4]thiazines – redox-active luminophores to unusual solid-state antiaromatics”).

Thieno- and benzothienoanelated [1,4]thiazines are more electrically enriched than their better known analogues (phenothiazines), as confirmed by DFT calculations and cyclic voltammetry. anti-anti and syn-anti-Bis[1]benzothieno[1,4]-thiazines exhibit specific electronic properties and exhibit pronounced green luminescence in solution (Φ F ≈ 20%) and in the solid state. X-ray diffraction analysis of the anti-anti derivatives revealed a coplanar arrangement of their pentacyclic anelated system, highlighting the structural similarity to heteroacenes. The calculated nuclear-independent chemical landslides further confirmed that these systems with an 8π-electron core can be considered as anti-aromatic systems.

Briefly about the event. It has already been more than one and a half years since scientists of the Research Department of Chemistry of Functional Materials STC “Institute of Single Crystals” of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine began and are available to a wide range of people at the Kharkiv Chemical Seminar, where they give reports and lectures. In particular, the course of lectures was given by Nobel laureates Jean-Marie Laine, Jean-Pierre Sauvage, Richard Roberts, Kurt Wüthrich, Dan Shechtman, as well as leading professors from France, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, the USA, the Netherlands and other countries. During the Kharkiv Chemical Seminar, more than 30 lectures were held, in which more than 9,000 participants took part (directly at the meetings and through the YouTube channel).
