Access to international scientific resources for Ukrainian scientists is open: Research4Life project

The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, together with the State Scientific and Technical Library of Ukraine, continues to inform about the possibilities of the international project Research4Life.

Research4Life is a project organized in a public-private partnership format by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the International Organization (ILO), Cornell and Yale universities, as well as the International Association of Scientific, Technical and Medical Publishers. Since 2002, the project has provided more than 10,500 institutions from more than 125 developing countries with online access to academic and professional peer-reviewed scientific literature.

Let us remind you that the Ukrainian scientific community, within the framework of the Research4Life project, continues to receive free access to important global electronic resources. Since March 2022, thanks to the support of partner publishers, Ukrainian scientists can freely use collections of journals, books, databases and reference materials. MON is also the administrator for setting up access to Research4Life.

At the beginning of 2023, Ukraine was transferred to the group of countries “A” within the framework of the project, which provided a number of advantages, in particular full-text access to scientific resources.

More than 550 Ukrainian institutions have already registered on the Research4Life portal, taking advantage of the opportunities for their research today.

In March 2024, the landmark annual meeting of Research4Life Country Connectors coordinators took place, where Ukrainian representatives took an active part for the first time. Based on the results of this meeting, a special section dedicated to Ukraine was allocated in the project’s annual report. This section details the participation of our institutions in the project and awareness of Research4Life opportunities among Ukrainian researchers. More details about the report here.

An important aspect: despite the significant number of registered institutions, access is underutilized in many of them, and workers are not sufficiently aware of the opportunities that the Research4Life partnership offers them.
