The webinar is organized to provide a peer-to-peer learning opportunity to engage Ukraine in research infrastructures and is addressed to research infrastructure practitioners, European, national and private sponsors, as well as ESFRI and national research infrastructures delegates. During the webinar, representatives of research infrastructures that have already started cooperation with Ukraine will talk about the experience gained and the challenges they faced. In addition, the webinar aims to highlight the potential impact of research infrastructures in the social sciences and humanities on different policy areas. Finally, opportunities and current funding gaps will be highlighted. The discussion will end with a proposal for further steps of cooperation in the near future.
OVERVIEW OF THE ONLINE WEBINAR
First of all, this webinar will demonstrate the first experience and current examples of Ukraine’s involvement in research infrastructures in the field of social sciences and humanities. Some ESFRI research infrastructures in the social sciences and humanities have already started working with Ukraine or are exploring different avenues for collaboration. European Social Research (ESS) ERIC (European Research Infrastructure Consortium) is preparing data collection in Ukraine as part of the upcoming 11th wave of data collection in Europe. SHARE ERIC (Survey of Health, Aging and Retirement in Europe) and GGP (Generation and Gender Program) are working to collaborate with researchers and organizations in Ukraine to organize a future meeting data. The Consortium of European Social Science Data Archives (CESSDA) ERIC supports Ukrainian data scientists. They work to preserve data assets in Ukraine, as well as develop tools and services to provide better access to data, especially for researchers from outside Ukraine. Collaborative Infrastructure for Language Resources and Technologies (CLARIN) ERIC is currently exploring several ways to collaborate with researchers from Ukraine, for example by helping to develop language and text corpora or translation systems. These examples show the current potential for cooperation with Ukraine. These efforts are supported by different devices. ESFRI research infrastructures support special events with their own funds in a charitable way. Other activities are funded by individual grants. Some research infrastructures have received initial support from Member States. Larger and more systematic activities aimed at including Ukraine in these research infrastructures will require additional support at the European level.
