ASSESSMENT OF THE BIOLOGICAL AND BIOTIC STRUCTURE OF ANTHROPOGENICALLY ALTERED COASTAL ECOSYSTEMS ON THE EXAMPLE OF SEA PORT AREAS

Prospects for further implementation in 2020 – 2021: to be continued as fundamental.

Research level: no analogues in Ukraine.

Availability of a patent: no.

What additional actions are required for further research in 2020: Scientific results will allow, in the further implementation of the planned topic, to assess the ecological state of seaport water areas in accordance with the standards of the Water Framework Directive and develop recommendations for state and research institutions in assessing the ecological state of contour biotopes, their biodiversity and modern stocks of biological resources.

Brief characteristics, advantages, further application perspective.

Data on assessing the state of the region’s near-port waters are primarily of practical importance for identifying negative changes in anthropogenic activity in these waters, and also expands knowledge about the functioning of pelagic and bottom communities in seaport waters and is a fundamental basis for further scientific research. The results obtained are a component of a long-term database of selected indicators, which are the basis for assessing the state of the environment using modern methods, determining reference conditions and identifying critical areas of the region. In addition, the obtained data are the basis for the adaptation of existing national methods of environmental monitoring to European standards in accordance with the standards of the Marine Strategy, carried out by the Institute in connection with the European integration of the country.
