Assessment of the biological and biotic structure of anthropogenically modified coastal ecosystems on the example of seaport water areas

Which priority area of science and technology corresponds to: rational environmental management

Research: fundamental.

Prospect for further implementation: to be continued as fundamental.

Research level: no analogues in Ukraine.

Patent: no.

What additional actions require further research: Scientific results will allow, in the future implementation of the planned topic, to assess the ecological state of seaport waters in accordance with the standards of the Water Framework Directive and develop recommendations for state and research institutions on assessing the ecological state of contour biotopes, their biodiversity.

Brief description, advantages, further prospects for application.

These assessments of the state of the port water areas of the region are primarily of practical importance for identifying negative changes in anthropogenic activity in these water areas, as well as expanding knowledge about the functioning of pelagic and bottom groups of seaport water areas and are a fundamental basis for further scientific developments. The results obtained are part of a long-term database of selected indicators, which is the basis for assessing the state of the environment using modern methods, determining reference conditions and identifying critical zones of the region. In addition, the data obtained are the basis for the adaptation of existing national environmental monitoring methods to European ones in accordance with the standards of the Marine Strategy carried out by the Institute in connection with the European integration of the country.
