Satellite telescope of electrons and protons “STEP-F”

Purpose. For registration of high-energy particles.

Scope. The device is used in the space industry on board a scientific satellite.

Advantages. There are no world analogues of satellite devices for registration of high-energy particles with such large geometric factors and the ability to determine the direction of particle arrival.

Description. The device consists of a STEP-FD detector unit installed in open space on the platform of the spacecraft and a STEP-FE electronics unit located in the sealed compartment of the satellite. The STEP-F device registers electrons with energies of 0.2-3 MeV, protons with energies of 3.7-60 MeV and alpha particles with energies of 16-180 MeV. The largest geometric factor for low-energy particles is 22 cm2 sr. Weight – 17 kg, overall dimensions: STEP-FD – 337x395x293 mm, STEP-FE – 95x287x160 mm; power consumption – 48 watts.
