The Ukrainian Institute has developed a magnetodynamic mixer-batcher of liquid iron, designed for heating, dosing and pouring cast iron on pulsating casting lines of flask and flaskless formation.
Industrial samples of magnetodynamic mixers-batchers of liquid iron have been created. With the help of such units, controlled induction heating, including forced heating, of liquid cast iron up to a temperature of 1600 ° C is provided, controlled electromagnetic stirring of the metal is carried out during its further processing (refining, alloying, modification) or aging, the dosed electromagnetic supply of cast iron to molds lines, carousels, centrifugal casting complexes, rotary units, continuous casting installations. These mixers can be used as induction heated storage tanks. Such equipment combines the functionality of an induction channel furnace and an electromagnetic pump. The principle of operation of the mixer is based on the effect of electric and magnetic fields on liquid metal. The mixer operating mode is continuous. Liquid cast iron is added to the mixer with ladles of 1.0-3.0 tons. During non-working shifts, the mixer is at a reduced power, which ensures long-term storage of liquid metal at a temperature of 1200-12500 ° C. During the casting of molds, the power on electromagnetic systems is set in this way, to provide the technologically necessary temperature and mass flow rate of cast iron. The metal casting process is controlled by the operator. Pouring of forms is performed automatically according to the time during which a given portion of metal is supplied. The dose delivery time is set on the control panel for each mold, depending on its metal content. The operator has the ability to adjust the casting time and the rate of metal feeding into the mold. The control circuit also provides a manual mode for pouring cast iron into molds.
Manufactured samples of magnetodynamic mixer-batchers with a capacity of 1600, 2500, 4000 and 6300 kg of cast iron. They provide: the speed of metal feeding when filling molds – 1-15kg / sec; productivity when casting iron on automatic lines – 6400-25000 kg / h; productivity for heating cast iron at 1000 ° С – 2500-10000 kg / h; specific energy consumption: when pouring cast iron into molds – 10-20 kW / h⋅t; with exposure – 30-60 kW / h /t.
The mixer-batcher allows: to improve the quality of cast iron, including through secondary processing; reduce energy consumption by 7-10%, which has a positive effect on the cost of foundry products; to increase the yield of good casting by 5-12%; reduce the waste of basic and alloying elements by 2-5%; automate the cast iron casting process by 20-25%; reduce harmful effects on the environment. Such equipment can also be used for out-of-furnace treatment and electromagnetic steel casting.

It makes it possible to completely eliminate manual labor when casting metal, improve the quality of cast iron, reduce casting defects, reduce energy consumption, and reduce the harmful impact on the environment.
