PURPOSE:
The Ukrainian University has developed a method for casting cylinders of internal combustion engines, which helps to strengthen, achieve maximum durability and minimum drift of cylinder liners, piston rings of diesel engines and internal combustion engines.
DESCRIPTION:
The cast-iron structure of the liners should have lamellar graphite, straight or with swirls, a metal matrix in the form of sorbitol-like pearlite, the complete absence of structurally free ferrite and cementite inclusions in an amount not exceeding 5% of the microsection area. Artificial acceleration of cooling the inner surface of the casting by blowing with compressed air allows to avoid excessive growth of graphite inclusions and to obtain the most optimal, moderately distributed lamellar graphite of medium size. The second stage of accelerated cooling is carried out by injection of refrigerant. It is this accelerated transition of the pearlite transformation temperature range that makes it possible to obtain a highly dispersed sorbitol-like structure of the metal base of cast iron. The dispersion of pearlite is not less than 10 0.3. No ferrite is present. There is no structurally free cementite on the inner surface of the liner. It is necessary to carry out the second stage of intensive cooling only for the part of the liner adjacent to the top board. Such differentiation allows obtaining uniform wear of the internal combustion engine cylinders along with the height during operation.
ADVANTAGES:
The developed method is distinguished by the fact that in order to prevent the occurrence of cracks in the casting, as well as to improve the heat removal from the surface, which is cooled, heat is removed by radiation, by introducing a conical body 4 into the chill mold cavity, it is cooled from the inside by a coolant with different intensity along its length. Analysis of the operation of engines with research cylinder liners showed their increased resource compared to serial ones by 35 … 40%.
