Disodium salt of 2-succinate acid with antioxidant and neuroprotective activity

Purpose:

The development can be used after preclinical trials in medical practice as a drug for the treatment of strokes.

Area:

Medicine.

Advantages:

The biological effect of the proposed substance, in contrast to the reference drugs, is realized in the acute period of ischemia, when the majority of modern neuroprotective agents do not show a reliable therapeutic effect.

Description:

A preparative synthesis method was developed and the specific activity of the disodium salt of 2- (2-methyl-5,8-dimethoxyquinolin-4-ylthio) succinate acid, a promising neuroprotector with a complex mechanism of action, was investigated. The compound has a positive effect on the functional activity of neurons, confirms a significant increase in the RNA content in animal cells on the 4th day of ischemia and an increase in transcriptional and translational processes in neurons under ischemic conditions. The administration of the neuroprotector to animals with impaired cerebral circulation provided a decrease in the number of cells in the cortex of their brain, destructively and apoptically altered. The proportion of apoptotic cells decreased.
